Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga is a style of yoga that focuses on holding poses for extended periods, typically between three to six minutes. Unlike more dynamic styles of yoga that emphasize movement and muscular strength, Yin Yoga targets the deep connective tissues of the body, such as the fascia, ligaments, and tendons, as well as the joints.
The practice is characterized by its slow pace and meditative quality. Poses are often seated or lying down, and the emphasis is on finding a position that allows for passive stretching and deep relaxation within a mild to moderate range of sensation in the targeted area. Props are often used to help bring you into or out of sensation. The extended hold times help to stimulate and enhance the vital life force energy (or āqiā) in the body, promote flexibility, and cultivate a sense of mindfulness and inner calm. Yin Yoga is an important element to a balanced wellness routine. It is often used as a complementary practice to more active styles of yoga or physical activities, providing balance by working on areas that are less frequently addressed in other forms of exercise.
